My friend, Daria and I went out to lunch on Saturday to a place we have been dying to go;
Ray's Grill in Fulshear, Texas. Ray's uses as much local, farm raised, organic products as possible so we really wanted to give him a try. I love Fulshear! It still has that quaint country charm of yesteryear. Cute shops, friendly people...you know the kind of place I'm talking about!
I ordered the "Ray's Burger". It sounded fabulous...carmelized onions and gorgonzola with a side of white truffle mac and cheese.. YUM. Daria ordered the Grilled Chicken Wrap with sweet onions, herb pesto and cheddar.
After being served our iced tea by a friendly waitress we received a bread basket with hot, fresh bread and an herb butter. It was delicious!!!! I wish I could say the same for the rest. I was definitely under-whelmed. It wasn't bad, just not great. The carmelized onions were a bit cold and the burger a bit dry (even though I ordered it medium rare and that's how it came). The gorgonzola, however, was creamy and melty. The mac and cheese was good but could have used a nice crust on top or some texture. Daria's wrap was "just ok" too.
We ordered a dessert to split because the macadamia pie sounded too good to pass up. We asked for half our sandwiches to go and eagerly awaited our dessert. It was beautiful.
The strawberries were the best part....fresh and sweet. The pie would have been great if it wasn't hard as a brick. The flavors were there but it should have been gooey not hard. Will we go back? I will give it another shot during dinner with my husband, but think I will skip lunch.
